Week 10 material: TPACK

There are three primary forms of knowledge: Content (CK), Pedagogy (PK), and Technology (TK). Content Knowledge (CK) is the subject matter to be learned or taught. Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) is the processes and practices or methods of teaching and learning. Technology Knowledge (TK) is the knowledge about specific ways of thinking about, and working with technology, tools, and resources.

There are Four interconnection and intersections between the three primary forms: Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK). In the middle is the Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK). The teacher lives in the heart of the TPACK framework. Teachers are curriculum designers of the TPACK.

Teachers need to develop an ability that flexibly navigate among specific subject’s content, pedagogy, and technology, and integrate interactions among them. Flexibility means deep, nuanced understanding of teaching with technology. Then the teacher can use in the efficient manner fluency and cognitive flexibility in their pragmatic classroom. The insight of the teacher understands HOW, WHEN, and WHY to use technology need teacher’s experiences. The quality of technology will enhance learning resources. The standard is the students. For instance, Literacy Education. How to use technology which plays the daily roles to teach literacy more effectively and critically. How to use the appropriate technology to change the way students learn reading and writing. The definition of literacy also needs to renew.
